Hi everyone --

Todd, the kids & I are doing the Walk for Epilepsy on Saturday, 6/21.

As you all know, this cause is incredibly near & dear to our hearts.

Epilepsy is one of the least understood conditions out there - there are so many variations, and it just isn't sexy enough to attract much fundraising/awareness. (not many epileptic sitcom stars) Yet more Americans have epilepsy than muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease combined! Of the 181,000 new cases diagnosed this year, 75% will be children.

It is impossible for most people to understand the devastating effects of epilepsy on individual and families. Your support will help provide services for those in need, and increase awareness, education and training around epilepsy.

Please take a few moments to visit Lily's blog (www.lily-bean.com), then follow the link to our pledge page and consider supporting our team.

With making some Obama t-shirts for the kidlets yesterday, and I have tons of "left-overs" up for grabs.

click here if you want one!Collapse )

Paypal $13 to me, and add in the comments which gender shirt, color, size & design you'd like.

Also, if you want a "custom" design/saying, I'm happy to put that together too. My skillz aren't super sophisticated, but I can do basic stuff (including adult shirts, if you want).

A President Like My Father

Published: January 27, 2008

OVER the years, I’ve been deeply moved by the people who’ve told me they wished they could feel inspired and hopeful about America the way people did when my father was president. This sense is even more profound today. That is why I am supporting a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama. Read more...Collapse )

I *LITERALLY* feel sick. This is a rare PUBLIC post of mine, to spread this word to as many people as possible.

The manufacturers of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone), Questcor just announced that they are raising the price of ACTH from ~$1,000 per vial to OVER $10,000 PER VIAL. (A typical course of ACTH can range from 3-6 vials of ACTH).

This is an absolute OUTRAGE, and I am BEYOND sick about it. ACTH is a first line med for Infantile Spasms, and many, MANY insurance companies already fight paying the $1k/bottle. Fewer and fewer kids will have access to this medication with this 1000%+ increase in cost.

Please, if you have a moment and feel so inclined, please give Questcor a shout (1-800-411-3065) & let them know that a 1000% increase on a medication that so many CHILDREN need is an outrage. That their bottom line & profit should NOT come at the expense of children's lives.

Dear Katie,
I work for Senator Barack Obama, and together, with you, we're about to start something incredible.
Right now I'm writing to ask you to take a moment and watch this important announcement from Senator Obama:
I'm also writing to let you know that Senator Obama will be making a speech about his plans for the future in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday morning.
It will be cold, but thousands will brave sub-freezing temperatures to be part of something historic.
Can't join us in person? No problem.
You can watch a live video feed of the event on BarackObama.com, which will be a brand new site in the morning. Here are the details:
Live Video Feed from Springfield, Illinois
10:55 AM Eastern / 9:55 AM Central / 8:55 AM Mountain / 7:55 AM Pacific
Please pass this along to anyone you think might interested.
That's all for now...but this is just the beginning.
Thank you,
David Plouffe

I am so ashamed of my state. Normally I am a crazy-proud Washingtonian, but this makes me so angry and so ashamed of people in general. Makes me want to move back to Mass, where they not only cover infertility treatments, but also *gasp* allow gay marriage.

A ton of people posted this yesterday but I missed the boat, so here it is today:

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is "Wrong"

1)Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2)Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3)Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4)Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5)Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage could be destroyed.

6)Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Off to the NST now; will update when I get home (or phone post if something better happens, but it probably won't).

ETA: I should have just had them do the goddamn amnio on Tuesday & delivered me yesterday. Then I wouldn't be dealing with all this shit!! GAH!!! THIS SUCKS ASS.
